How to ice skate

Ice rinks all over the country can often be seen surrounded by newcomers, clinging to the edges as they slowly pull themselves around. Here's a short guide to give beginners a headstart before stepping foot on the ice.

The motion of ice skating is almost identical to that of inline skating, although on a much smoother surface and with obviously less friction, it can easily become much faster with little effort.

The simple, typical method of ice skating involves stepping from foot to foot, with toes pointed outwards. As the blades of the ice skates are pushed outwards on the ice, the skater is moved towards. As the skater begins to travel faster, the angle of the blades can be brought inwards, taking longer strides.

The next step on would be to learn forwards crossovers.
