Forward crossovers

Relatively easy but very effective, crossovers allow skaters to turn quickly while still maintaining or increasing their speed.

Forward crossovers are performed by leaning into the turn, and stepping one skate over the other with the desired speed. Power can also be increased while turning by pushing harder from the thighs.

Be careful not to clip the boot on the ice with the blade of the other as you step over. Also, ensure that the pressure is being put on the sharp area of the skate blades or they may slip from under you. For more information on this, have a look at Blade edges.

With sharp blades, very small circles can be managed supprisingly easily.
